A Guide to Brocade and Jacquard

Both are woven patterns — but brocade's supplementary threads give it a raised, embroidered look.

Jacquard refers to the loom mechanism that allows complex patterns to be woven directly into cloth.

Brocade is a type of jacquard in which supplementary weft threads — often metallic — create a raised design.

Both are excellent for ceremonial wear, kaftans and statement pieces.
